comic book journalist
Do you differentiate between the term ‘writer’ and ‘author’?
Do you think the two terms are interchangeable or do you think of writers differently than authors? Do you consider a journalist a writer or author? What about someone who writes a movie script? Do you think someone who writes a scholarly essay or research paper is an author? If someone writes a comic book is he considered an author?
If you are writing a manuscript what do you tell others you are? How do you define each term?
I once met a ‘writer’ of comics who pens the words, someone else illustrates for him.
I love the answers I’ve gotten so far. Wow I didn’t think of the ‘authoring’ a plan. That’s a fact to be tucked away for use later.
Normally I don’t differentiate between the 2 terms. Most of the time the 2 terms are interchangeable. I consider the journalist both, a writer or an author, the same with the movie script writer. However, I don’t think someone who write a research paper is a writer, and let me explain myself; If I ran today because it was raining and I didn’t wanted to get wet, that does not makes me a “track ‘n field Runner”, well the same with the writer thing, writing just a research paper now and then does’nt makes me a “writer”.
On the other hand, I think that the terms could be interpreted differently and that depends in the context that it could be said. For example. In spanish (my primary language) If I say The writer (escritor) of this book is Adam Smith. That sentence is literal and its very clear…… But I also could say; The author (autór) of the crime is John Doe. I’m talking about the mastermind or perpetrator of a crime, not exactly a book Author…
Anyway, I’ll hope that helps you. Have a good day
